|Biography||Shelby Ch'ng was elected to Thunder Bay Council in 2014 as Councillor for Northwood Ward. She is the owner of Unveiled Bridal Boutique in Thunder Bay. She received a degree in Poltical Science from Lakehead University.|
|Candidate Statement||My name is Shelby Ch’ng and I am a successful boutique owner and passionate business mentor. Like so many residents, I have experienced the stress of flooding. In the past four years, I have worked alongside residents of Northwood to successfully secure funding for storm sewer upgrades. |
Bringing in new technology like the Python 5000 to fill potholes year round has led to significant savings which we were able to invest into other infrastructure projects. I have worked tirelessly to make sure that constituents are informed and engaged through live streaming ward meetings and through an overhaul of the City website.
If re-elected, I will focus on:
1) Intergovernmental Relationships - I have worked diligently on professional relationships with our local MPs and MPPs as well as with the leadership of our neighbouring FWFN. Our city needs strong relationships with both levels of government as well as the neighbouring Indigenous Communities to move forward.
2) Business Resiliency - I will put a stronger focus on building up business resiliency in our City. Leveraging public dollars with private funding will keep the Thunder Bay business community and our assessment values strong.
3) Enhanced Communications - I will focus on advocating for the use of modern communication and technology tools. This is the cornerstone for enhanced transparency and engagement in our City.
4) Infrastructure Renewal - I will also continue to advocate for quality infrastructure work in the City of Thunder Bay and work towards closing our infrastructure gap.
